A PRAYER FOR OUR COUNTRY

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NIV)

Heavenly Father, thank you for those who have been entrusted with the high calling of leadership in our country — from the local school board to the White House. We know that all authority that exists has been established by your hand (Romans 13:1). Today, we pray that you would impart our leaders with the wisdom that comes from you (Job 12:13) — wisdom that is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere (James 3:17). Surround our leaders with godly advisors and give them success in all their endeavors (Proverbs 15:22). Give them the courage to obey your leading despite personal preferences or political pressure. We pray that they would seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with you each day (Micah 6:8).

We also pray for our neighbors in our community. Help us to live in harmony with one another in all humility (Romans 12:16). Help us not only look to our own needs but to the needs of others as well (Philippians 2:4). Allow our neighbors to recognize Jesus in our lives by the way that we love (John 13:35). Allow the local churches to shine like a city on a hill and bring hope and healing to our broken world. In the mighty name of Jesus we Pray AMEN
